Saturday Can I Do It Day

Hey ya’ll,

Distractions were built into this day, as Smite has double everything, so you can boost your gaming potential. Needless to say I plunged into gaming, only to realize I havend done a blog post. So, I paused gaming, and am ready to get this done.

For the past few weeks I’ve been working on a science fiction story. I’ve written character backgrounds (one still evades me), and parts of the world itself. The goal for the weekend is to type more of it, as I like what’s in pen abs paper, but typing helps shape things better. Makes it a little more formal, and a lot more professional.

Before mid October arrives, I’d love to have the first completed outline. It will be based off the story bible I’m creating, and by mid November, at least a first draft written. One word at a time ya’ll.

As always, happy creative endeavors.

Nine Stages

For the past few days I’ve been pushing forth the idea of now or never with my writing goals and projects. The time has come to push them forward, because keep dreaming of them being published and/or produced as opposed to getting them completed really isn’t good for me.

So today I’m a starting projects, with goals and deadlines involved. Hopefully by June of 2018 I’ll have completed writing them, and will move them to the next plateau.  I’m listing my goals below to show what I’m thinking and going. I’ll start of small, and keep intensifying the work.

Stage One:

  • First deadline: 11/30/17
  • Choose four of my story ideas.
  • Convert the ideas into premises.
  • Type the story ideas and premises.
  • Begin preliminary research (article, book or two).

Stage Two:

  • Deadline: 12/31/17
  • Main Character notes (identify MCs heart’s desire or greatest fear, wound, or flaw).
  • Add notes from other characters.
  • Do more research (minimum 4 additional resources).
  • Initiate first draft of outline (minimum: ACT One for each project).

Stage Three

  • Deadline: 1/31/18
  • Complete act Two AND Three of outlines.

Stage Four

  • Deadline: 2/28/18
  • Allow 1 Week for outline draft cool downs.
  • Begin writing Act 1 of each screenplay.

Stage Five

  • Deadline: 3/31/18
  • Begin writing Act 2 of each screenplay.

Stage Six

  • Deadline: 4/31/18
  • Begin writing Act 3 of storylines.

Stage Seven

  • Deadline: 5/31/18
  • Cool down period. Go work on something else/distract self.

Stage Eight

  • Deadline: 6/30/18
  • Complete rewrites and then relax. Project done for the moment.

Stage Nine

  • Deadline 7/31/18
  • Look for agent.
  • Send out queries
  • Submit complete projects.
  • Start new projects.

Wish me luck.  Happy creative endeavors.

Goals

I need to set some projects into stronger rotation in my days, and that also includes this blog. I took a seminar on Friday about projects, and effective communication, despite the fact that these posts can be spur of the moment, there is something to be said for a focused, thought-out post.

That said, it’s Sunday, I’m a bit moody, and tired. It leaves me little room for putting things together, and I’d rather be gaming.  Since I’m not gaming, all I can do is put some effort into posting

Little writing got done this weekend, and I am reminded that I am not happy that. If I am to change this aspect of my weekends, I need to change my attitude. Writing is a passion, but it is also an investment. I need to invest in myself on a daily basis, even if it’s twenty minutes a day, at the very least I know effort was placed towards something I love.

Keep in mind each writing task is a separate project. For example, the blog gets its twenty mins, then the novel gets twenty mins, and so forth. I gotta get myself together.

Happy creative endeavors.

Tired III

In my bed with hopes of getting up and about soon. Finals seem to be contagious, as I appear to be sleep deprived and need more rest and relaxation. I hope today is that day for the r&r. I’m thinking music will soothe my mind.

No plans today than to go on top of a workshop project, and plug away to first draft. Yesterday had a moment of clarity, where the original proposal set for critique was not something I liked, so I rewrote it and resubmitted it to class with hopes of people responding to it. If not response, I’m still moving forward with it.

I feel strongly about the direction, and this is why I like to write things out before they are due. It gives me time to digest things, and see what’s going on in my head. Otherwise I get days where things are clear to me.
Happy creative endeavors.

Old and New

After a couple of inquiries, I need to clarify some of my goals and aspirations.  For those not in the know, I am a writer and blogger. I use a variety of mediums to write both fiction and non-fiction, such as poetry, short story, TV scripts, and screenplays. I prefer to write scripts and screenplays for film and television. You can add scripts for comics as well, and need to get on top of that.

Some of my education has been geared to film and television, mainly research, film history, film theory, and writing based on the text.  I also learned to write and format television scripts, comics, and screenplays for films.

The one constant project I’ve been pushing is the completion of a speculative pilot, and two additional episodes for a TV series. It is a fantasy series, and it is my hope that the spec pilot is gets picked up for production, and lands on a network as a series. This project has been a challenge, as I started, and forgot some of my teachings in regards to formatting. I went back and reread textbooks, and relearned the format process.

Also part of it is me learning to cut out parts of a script that, while they look good, may not fit with the story and format. Sometimes I’m adept at this, other times I’m terrible. At this stage I’m revising, and editing, since I have the luxury of doing so without a time table. I hope to have the pilot looking like a champ.

Happy creative endeavors.

Monday with a Chance of Rain

Outside looks gloomy, ready to drop rain at any moment. The weather man says 50% chance of rain. As long as its not muggy and hot. That heat can be ruthless at times. It makes for great discomfort. I digress. It’s cool and I’m having my iced coffee like its brain food. Should make a sandwich to nibble on.

Yesterday I found myself rewriting a scene on my Notes app. The write was to add tension to a rather flat scene, so from what I have mission was accomplished. The material was rough and unformatted, so today’s goal is to get this scene in shape. I have a few other items Notes I need to address, so there’s at least a technical aspect to adder if I don’t feel creative.

As always, happy creative endeavors.

Monday

It’s humid and it makes me uncomfortable.  Did get some writing done yesterday.  The first act looks good with the revisions done for it. Looking over act two today.  I like it as it, but feel I need to give it another pass when that humid feeling goes away later on tonight.

Need to look at one of the short stories I wrote, which coincides with an essay I wish to write about it  That will help me put two and two together with it. Also wrote parts of a song yesterday and want to update it.  Tried to sing it, and I knew some of the words didn’t fit. I really should improve my musical skills, so I can compose better. At this point, I can make a simple harmony and sing it.

If I had a genre of music I fit, I’d likely be a form of alternate folk. I’d incorporated all sorts of sounds from island, funk, hip hop, folk, country, blues, and R&B. So that would be fun to make, but its a pipe dream. I still like to think about it some.  It’s fun, and something to aspire to without worrying.

As always, happy creative endeavors.
