Getting Back to One Project
Is it possible to work exclusively on one project. Let’s find out today. Today is about one screenplay and getting all the elements together on a cohesive paper. This means rewriting. I need a character list, premise, genre info, plot and outline completed today. Normally I’d say this is a lot, but I already did this. Writing is rewriting in my world, and I insist I have it all done today or near done. It’s not like I can’t work on this tomorrow, but I need to put the effort where it’s due. I said I had a definitive focus for my protagonist, so now I need to show it. For the record this is a comedy with supernatural elements.
I do have errands, and If I have other ideas, I’m a jot them down but this is my main priority for the rest of the week. For a break I will allow gaming. I’m having dinner, and I have a few errands that need to be taken care of so now I have built-in breaks.
Dark Shadows Trailer
Remake, reboot, or hot mess. You decide. If there’s a Christopher Lee cameo in this movie, it might be worth one glance.
Stressed Out
It’s been days of crazy imbalances and upsets with me trying to managed my life. Writing has become a chore, however, as always I come back to it and resolve the issues within. I’ve had to adjust to some schedule changes and life and general. One of those things being my car needing service. It really unnerved me. Thank god I was able to get it serviced. I think this week I’ll have a complete handle on the chaos.
Working on the thesis today. I could not manage to write much since I was making breakfast, and after cooking I don’t feel like eating or writing. I’m making myself type this blog post. I insisted that SDCD have something noteworthy to write. The thesis still needs a gang of work and some days dedicated to its development. Been reading a new source on dark humor to add to my genre discussion. I’m glad I took the time to read it while my car was being repaired.
Did some fiction reading as well. Was reading The Calling by David Gaider. Yes its a gaming prequel for Dragon Age, but I needed the escapism. Non-fiction reading consisted of The Art of Dramatic Writing which proves, as always to add depth to my writing knowledge. At this point, I covered having a premise is the best way to start any story. Something that brings depth to writing. In another post I will talk more about my desire to entertain as a writer.
Soon, I’ll have to gather my notes on reviews I did and type them out to post here and at Tastes Like Comics. Damn I’m feeling sketchy at the moment, but will manage to get all things on track like a pro!
Thesis: It Gets No Easier
Been writing my thesis. To me plugging away at it is the only way to get it done. Well I realized today that this is gonna take a lot more time than I expected. For that matter, I’m looking at doing more and more research than planned. I’m gonna go way past the minimum of 40 pages for this degree. It wan’t expected, and in fact I would have preferred to keep it simple, however since I’m not going to do that, I want to work harder at putting things together.
Trying to contextualize genre has become something of an obsession for me. I need these defined and move on. Next weekend I have to finish the comedy sub-genres because there are some other genres I need to address and finish. I may have to get up early during next week and spend at least an hour a day writing.
Thought about taking the first five pages and revising them, but I feel I need to write more and do less editing. It must be done. Why does it feel so monumental? My goal is to show at least 20 pages of this to my professors, but I’m a mess.
Screenplayed
Two scripting options have surfaces. At least I can manage my time to handle them. First thing is what most of my FB peeps know, after losing the file for a 90 page screenplay I was faced with having to retype all 90 pages over. I have a hardcopy so I knew what was ahead of me. While cleaning some old files from my computer, I found the screenplay. I have three copies of that file now. Soon I’m going to have to go over this screenplay to correct it and make it noteworthy.
The second is I’ve been working on a project to submit to a producer. Finished the first draft of the beat outline. This weekend I hope to get the kinks out and resolve several of the problems within this outline. One thing classes have stressed is to resolve the issues within the outline stage or the script won’t work. You don’t want issues then.
This means for me a sign that I’m getting things on track. I really need to resolve these issues in this story and get myself focused on something positive. For those not in the know, writing has always been a source of challenge and comfort for me. I’m gonna get it resolved and make things work out.
One thing I did notice is that my first two screenplays are comedies. I didn’t not expect that as I always favor science fiction, fantasy, horror, adventure, and crime genres. Maybe I will get to them. I know so far what I’m doing feels right. For me having people laugh from my writing makes me feel good.
