I’m currently working on my application to the Cinema Studies graduate program at SCAD. I graduated with a Cinema Studies degrees from UCF in May 2008 and I’ve been dying to get back in to the classroom ever since. I’ve been looking over your posts and I’m glad to see the excitement in your posts about SCAD’s Graduate program.

      Hello Aaron.

Thanks for reading and posting to my CINEs blog. I appreciate the feedback.

I love the Cinema Studies program at SCAD. I’ve learned so much from my classes, classmates, and professors. For sure I’m enjoying myself. It’s a lot of work, and a healthy challenge for me, which is what I need.

Feel free to drop by and post as you like. If you have any questions about the Cinema Studies program, please let me know.

    Hey,

I just stumbled upon your blog.. and hit my head against the wall for not having found it sooner..

I am a prospective graduate student of Cinema studies.. I actually got through to SCAD with a scholarship and NYU without a scholarship.. And although NYU seems like a more popular choice for many.. the scholarship is luring me towards SCAD which I believe is a wonderful art school in its own right..

I was wondering if you could help me with my dilemma.. SCAD or NYU? As a SCAD student what do you think will be a better choice?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Thanks for posting. All I can only tell you about is my SCAD experience.

First thing the program is a small, but growing which means you can get individual attention. The scholarship sounds real appealing as classes are expensive. Both professors we have for Cinema Studies are Doctors and do a great job with instructing.

I’ve also had the opportunity to take classes in the Film and Television, Writing, and Sequential Art programs. It’s been worth it for me.

The annual Film Festival has been a good experience for me as well.

I suppose a question for you would be where do you want to relocate and how much money do you wish to spend. Best wishes with your decision, also feel free to email the Cinema Studies department with additional questions.

I’m really happy I stumbled across this blog! This helped me out :) Thanks.

I just got accepted to the MA program. I’m nervous about taking classes. I’ve been out of school for a little over a year, so I wonder if my writing skills are going to be on par…

Anyway, I was wondering how many classes should I take per semester? I heard that 2 is enough for a graduate student (you seem to lean that way in one post), but 3 is full time.

Also, since I’ll be new, is there any advice you could give me about living in Savannah (I’m moving down there off campus- sometime, lol).

    Thank you!

      Nona,

I completely missed this post. My apologies.

Congrats on being accepted into the MA program. I am sure you will enjoy yourself. Have you spoken to Dr. Rawlings or Dr. Cox-Stanton? Don’t be nervous about the classes as both instructors are very approachable.

I work full time, so two classes is enough. Since we have to write research papers, it becomes a little heavier. If you work part time you may be able to swing three classes. I know I can’t.

I live off campus, and prefer it that way. I live outside the city. My strongest advice is to get an apartment guide and see what’s open. The closer you are to the city, the more expensive the living expenses.

The weather in the summer is hot in humid. I insist on central air. Trust me, window models will not suffice.

Message me back if you have more questions. Congrats again.
